Cameroon Sailfin Chameleons
Chamaeleo (Trioceros) montium

Montiums inhabit the mountainous regions of
Cameroon. This species should be kept between 60-80 degrees with a higher level
of humidity. They like to bask in the early morning sun to warm up. Males have
two forward pointed horns above the snout tip. They also have an impressive
fan-like sailfin along the back spine and tail base. Females lack the horns
and the sailfins. Males have light and dark markings colored green, blue,
yellow, black and white. Females are an overall bright yellow/green with skin
"grooves" in between the scales that are reddish brown in coloration. Females
that are gravid or non-receptive to a male show very dark green colors (nearly
black) with bright yellow scales scattered along the top of the head. A very
pretty and gentle species.
